Bring your colour
Great minds don’t think alike. In fact, the opposite is true. At Addleshaw Goddard, we’re constantly surprised (and delighted) by where our best lawyers come from. As a trainee, what will open doors to an outstanding future here is the real you.
We’ll take that authenticity and give you the experiences, training and exposure to capitalise. The career you’ll launch with us will be every bit the one-off that you are. This organisation runs – above all else – on individual spark, personality and spirit. A brilliant flash of colour, we call it. Bring yours and see where it takes you.
CAMARADERIE NOT HIERARCHY
Collaboration is everything here. We’re a growing, forward-looking organisation where talented people come together to solve complex legal issues for clients – challenging each other and backing each other to always reach further.
We don't just create dedicated lawyers here. We'll turn you into the trusted, go-to advisor for your clients. Your training contract will last two years and in this time you will complete four six-month seats. You'll have a wide variety of meaningful work - including anything from multi-million-pound banking deals and cross-border mergers and acquisitions to the most high profile fraud cases, complex technology contracts, employment disputes and transformational construction assignments. Just as importantly, you’ll collaborate with some of our brightest minds. Working on market-leading, headline-making matters, you’ll develop the connections and skills you need to achieve to qualify in one of the UK’s most experienced and respected law firms.
CORPORATE & COMMERCIAL
From providing trademark services to a leading fashion house to acting on a £2 billion securities issue for a retail client or working with local government on the construction of a new port, our Commercial and Corporate division manages and transacts large-scale, multi-jurisdictional deals. Time here will mean working side-by-side with one of the largest and most experienced teams of lawyers in the country on deals of global significance, with exposure to challenging and complex matters both domestic and international.
With twenty six partners and eighty five fee earners, our litigation practice is one of the best in the business. We’ve built our reputation representing some of the major global banks, pharmaceutical and technology companies in large-scale disputes, providing complex, high-end legal advice for claimants, appellants and defendants. As a part of this extensive division, you’ll learn about and deploy our advanced commercial approach to dispute resolution.
FINANCE AND PROJECTS
Our Finance and Projects division delivers strength in depth across three main areas of practice: Banking, Business Support and Restructuring, and Infrastructure, Projects and Energy. With wide-ranging expertise in fields including corporate banking, social infrastructure and dispute resolution, we’ve advised on diverse matters, from the purchase of a new fleet by an international airline to acting for the administrators of the UK’s largest energy businesses. You’ll work on challenging cases that mirror the changing face of national and international finance.
We work at the forefront of emerging markets, including real asset classes such as student accommodation, private rented, infrastructure and energy, as well as with major hotel chains, construction companies and asset managers. A seat with this team will equip you with an advanced skill set geared to the future of real estate.
Tomorrow, the world
We’re proud of the lasting connections we’ve created with people and businesses around the globe. Today, we have an international network covering the UK, Europe, Asia and the GCC locations. Our access to major jurisdictions and economic centres worldwide provides fascinating and horizon-expanding work. From the outset, you’ll be part of it. You might even have the chance to explore it for yourself, through one of our many secondment opportunities.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
You are not a type
From the moment our organisation was created, we set ourselves the challenge of bringing great minds together. To us, that’s always meant being open, honest and supportive of excellence, wherever we find it.
There’s never been an Addleshaw Goddard type. Our success has been built by people from the widest range of backgrounds, locations and perspectives. Professionals committed to meeting complex intellectual challenges by working side-by-side.
Diversity and inclusion have underpinned our growth and shaped our identity as a firm. Today, they’re defining our future. Our history shows that our values make sense, not just moral, but commercially too.
Our reputation as a leading firm to work with – and for – has been consistently recognised, year-on-year. We’re talking about everything from being a pioneer in the field of shared parental leave to winning Global Dispute of the Year for UK Litigation. Everything we’ve accomplished can be traced back to our people and the way we work: with an unwavering focus on doing our best – together.
We have won many other awards over the years, including:
- The ‘Most Innovative Client Service’ award for our Future Leaders’ Programme at the Managing Partners’ Forum
- 5th most innovative law firm in Europe, according to research published by the Financial Times/RSG Consulting
- 2nd in Legal Week’s national league table for the best graduate employers, as voted for by graduates themselves
- Top employer for women in The Times Times Top 50 Employer for Women 2019 for the 12th year in a row
Furthermore, our Africa App was recognised with the Knowledge Management Innovation Award. The app, a vital tool for anyone doing business on the African continent, provides easily-digestible information on legal regulation in various markets and jurisdictions, drawing on expert guidance from our preferred network of local firms.
We were also nominated for the Work Placement Scheme – Regional Firm award in the LawCareers.Net Awards in 2018. We’ve been nominated in the AllAboutLaw 2018 awards for Best Training Contract (National firm) and Best Opportunities for Career Progression – Vacation Scheme.
