Academic qualifications

We accept applications from graduates or undergraduates of any discipline, who’ve achieved at least a 2.1 degree, in addition to A,B,B at A Level, excluding General Studies.

Legal Access Scheme in Partnership with BPP

We pride ourselves on being a truly inclusive firm. As part of our approach to diversity, we offer a Legal Access Scheme to encourage people from different backgrounds to join the legal profession. These placements will be offered across Leeds, London and Manchester and those candidates who perform well will have the option of applying for a training contract with us at the end of the process.

The scheme has been devised in collaboration with the BPP Law School, who administer it, and is open to BPP students currently studying for their LLB, GDL or LPC. We launched the Legal Access Scheme in 2007.

Personal Qualities and Experience

A good lawyer is more than their academic record. We’re looking for people with demonstrable energy, commitment and communication skills, as well as the determination to eventually take a leading role in a forward and fast-moving law firm. Further desirable qualities and experience include:

This need not be legal work experience, but some commercial exposure may help your application. You should be fired up by the prospect of working in a business focussed environment.

We’re business advisors, not just legal advisors. We therefore encourage you to develop your commercial awareness by taking a keen interest in current affairs, reading the trade press and researching topical issues which affect the legal sector and our clients.

It goes without saying that we encourage you to achieve a healthy balance between curricular and extra-curricular activities. Having a range of interests outside of work, such as music, sport and culture may help your application.

You’ll need to demonstrate a strong career-driven focus and be able to convince us that you’ve made a specific and informed choice when deciding to apply with us.

We’re looking for people from a range of backgrounds who can effortlessly integrate with a team, and can adapt to a variety of challenging and complex situations.

Not at all, as long as you put the time to good use and can demonstrate to us that taking the gap year has benefited you in some way.

You should be applying for a Training Contract two years prior to when you will be ready to commence a Training Contract.

Occasionally we employ graduates on one year contracts to fill vacancies for various positions including secretary, paralegal, receptionist etc. All current vacancies are advertised on our website. All speculative applications should be made online as well.

We do employ paralegals for our Transaction Services Team. Vacancies are advertised on our website.

It would be a condition of your employment with Addleshaw Goddard LLP that you have the right to work for us at the time that your training contract would start. Addleshaw Goddard LLP is not a licensed sponsor under the UK points based immigration system so would not be able to sponsor you under that system. The UK immigration authority's website www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/ contains further details about immigration in the UK. Once you have submitted your form we will accept updated additions only to work experience or academic results as long as we receive them before the deadlines. These must be emailed to grad@addleshawgoddard.com. If you wish to amend your personal or contact details, these must be emailed to grad@addleshawgoddard.com.

Yes, we require all applicants to complete our application form online. We will not accept CVs, speculative enquiries or other standard application forms.

We will not automatically discount an application if these grades have not been gained. There is space on the application form to enter any details you may feel to be relevant, such as mitigating circumstances. Also, for current BPP students that don't meet these requirements, we run the Legal Access Scheme - please contact your careers service for further information. Applicants should be aware that the competition for placement schemes and Training Contracts is fierce, and you will be competing against applicants who have achieved the requirements. Therefore, you should ensure that the rest of your application form provides us with the best reflection of yourself and your abilities.

Yes, if offered a training contract we will sponsor your GDL/LPC and provide you with a maintenance grant. We don't however pay fees retrospectively.
