With twenty-seven Partners and eighty Associates, our litigation practice is one of the best in the business. We’ve built our reputation representing some of the major global banks, pharmaceutical and technology companies in large-scale disputes, providing complex, high-end legal advice for claimants, appellants and defendants. As a part of this extensive division, you’ll learn about and deploy our advanced commercial approach to dispute resolution.

Our Finance and Projects division delivers strength in depth across three main areas of practice: Banking, Business Support and Restructuring, and Infrastructure, Projects and Energy. With wide-ranging expertise in fields including corporate banking, social infrastructure and dispute resolution, we’ve advised on diverse matters, from the purchase of a new fleet by an international airline to acting for the administrators of the UK’s largest energy businesses. You’ll work on challenging cases that mirror the changing face of national and international finance.

We work at the forefront of emerging markets, including real asset classes such as student accommodation, private rented, infrastructure and energy, as well as with major hotel chains, construction companies and asset managers. Trainee Onboarding Trip

We want to ensure our trainees are fully equipped to hit the ground running when they join Addleshaw Goddard and it is also important to us they have built relationships with their peers. Trainees will have the opportunity before they start at the firm to spend a few days with the other future trainees, partners, members of the executive team, and our graduate HR team on a trainee onboarding trip.

The trip will be in the UK and will be in a location suitable for trainees from our English and Scottish offices to attend. During the trip there will be a number of activities for the trainees to get involved in. There will be a mix of informal team building activities along with more formal sessions giving you an insight into the firm, our practice and our culture.

For the 2018 trainee on-boarding trip we headed to a country hotel in Coventry from 7-10 August. Trainees arrived on a Tuesday morning and after checking in and brief introductions, went straight into a session to learn about technology and how it can be used within law. Groups were later set a technology project to work on during the course of the week. The project was created by our Head of Legal Technology, Kerry Westland. Kerry wanted to give the trainees a project that would allow them to start thinking about the link between technology and law. We wanted our trainees to get to know each other and practice their team working skills and working on a project in small groups would allow this.

Day 2 was a full day of outdoor Bear Grylls type activities where trainees were placed in a number of challenging situations and were expected to use their newly learnt skills to survive! Following this there was a Partner Bootcamp where a number of our senior partners passed on some words of wisdom to our new recruits. Amanda Gray (Divisional Managing Partner for Finance & Projects), Leona Ahmed (Head of Real Estate), Adrian Smith (Head of Corporate Relations) and Will James (Head of our payments team) sat on the panel. After discussing their roles in the firm and giving trainees their perspective on the firm and the market, the floor was opened to the trainees to ask questions.

Day 3 was CSR focused for the early part of the day. Trainees learnt more about AG's work within CSR and gained an understanding of how important this is to the firm. Trainees then spent time and worked on a task with student members of UpReach. UpReach is a charity which helps disadvantaged students from across the UK realise their potential. Through our partnership with UpReach, we invited UpReach associates for the day to meet and work on a project with our trainees. Following the CSR part of the day trainees presented their findings from the technology project they were set earlier in the week. Sitting on the panel for the presentations was Kerry Westland, Axel Koelsch (COO), Gráinne Mitchell (Graduate Resourcing Manager).

Day 4 commenced with a team activity, a morning spent looking at CSI investigation techniques. Lunch shortly followed and the day ended with farewells.

The evenings were relaxed and informal, we had a curry night, a barbeque and even a Gala Dinner. The evenings were a great way to unwind and get to know each other after the busy days.

All involved had a truly excellent time.

Diversity & Inclusion

A diverse history

With a founding commitment to being open, honest and supportive of excellence, wherever we find it, we were built to bring minds together. As an organisation, our success has been made by a variety of individuals from different backgrounds, locations and perspectives, meeting complex intellectual challenges by working side-by side, with one another. Diversity and inclusion have underpinned our growth and shaped our identity as a firm. Today, they’re defining our future. Our history shows that our values make sense, not just from a moral perspective, but from a business perspective too.

Our awards

Working together has its rewards

Our reputation as a leading firm to work with, as well as a leading employer, has been consistently recognised, year-on-year. Whether it’s being identified as a pioneer in the field of shared parental leave or winning the category of Global Dispute of the Year for UK Litigation, everything we’ve accomplished can be traced back to our people and the way we work: with an unwavering focus on doing our best collectively, as well as individually.

We have won a number of awards over the years, including being named as a top employer for women in The Times Top 50 list, receiving the 'Most Innovative Client Service’ award for our Future Leaders’ Programme at the Managing Partners’ Forum: MPF Awards for Management Excellence, being identified as the 5th most innovative law firm in Europe, according to research published by the Financial Times in association with RSG Consulting, and coming 2nd in Legal Week’s national league table for the best graduate employers, as voted for by graduates.

Our Africa App was recognised with the Knowledge Management Innovation Award. The app, a vital tool for anyone doing business on the African continent, provides easily-digestible information on legal regulation in various markets and jurisdictions, drawing on expert guidance from AG’s preferred network of local firms.

We were nominated for the Work Placement Scheme - Regional Firm award in the LawCareers.Net Awards in 2018. We have also been nominated in the AllAboutLaw 2018 awards for Best Training Contract (National firm); and Best Opportunities for Career Progression - Vacation Scheme.
